In the recently published Crowdfunding Monitor 2020, the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts reports on the development of the Swiss crowdfunding market over the past year. Around 180,000 people invested almost 600 million Swiss francs in over 4,600 projects on around 40 platforms. The following table shows the development of the various areas of crowdfunding in recent years.

Development Crowdlending Segments

Crowdlending experienced the greatest growth rate with an increase of over 60% (to CHF 418.4 million). Mortgage-backed loans were the main contributor to this growth, but SMEs and consumer loans also increased significantly again, each with a growth rate of around 19%. As the adjacent chart shows. However, the figures still point to the great potential of this alternative form of financing in the context of the Swiss credit market as a whole.

Expectations for 2020

Finally, the study puts forward 4 theses for the current year 2020. In summary, it assumes that growth will continue, that further market concentration (including mergers, abandonment) will result, that the share of institutional investors in relation to the crowd will continue to increase, and that CoVID-19 offers not only risks but also opportunities, depending on the segment.

Crowd4Cash was again able to achieve triple-digit growth last year. The successful launch of Crowd4Cash Easy, which enables digital payment by instalments at the PoS, also contributed to this. We continue to work on our future, with innovative ideas and exciting projects for our customers.
